Installation Tips for Hayward Pool Pump Drain Plugs

Before attempting to remove or replace the drain plugs from your Hayward pool pump assembly, please ensure that you follow all safety precautions. Begin by turning off both the pump and the circuit breaker that powers it. Close all necessary valves to prevent water from flowing to the pump. To seal all plastic threaded connections, it is recommended to use PTFE tape.

When installing the drain plugs, position the pipe plug with the threaded end facing you and wrap PTFE tape clockwise around the threads, ensuring at least 2 layers are applied. Wrap 2 layers of PTFE tape throughout the entire length of the threaded portion. Avoid using Pipe Dope, as it may increase the risk of cracking the plastic pipe plugs. It is highly recommended to lubricate the o-rings before installation to extend their lifespan. Only tighten the drain plugs enough to prevent leaks.
