When installing the 1 1/2-inch FIP Inlet Return Fitting, there are some important things to consider to ensure a proper fit and prevent leaks. The hole in the liner or fiberglass wall should be between 2.36" and 2.40", with the most common diameter being 2.38".

The installation process involves placing the flanged nut end, fiber washer, and one gasket outside the pool, behind the fiberglass or vinyl liner. Another gasket should be positioned inside the pool along with the return fitting body, essentially sandwiching the liner or fiberglass with a gasket on each side.

To provide an additional sealing layer, a dab of silicone sealant should be applied to the side of the gaskets that come into contact with the liner or fiberglass. Pass the fitting body through one gasket, the liner hole, the other gasket, the fiber washer, and finally thread it with the flanged nut. It is important not to over-tighten the fitting, and the tightness should be checked over the next few days to ensure there are no leaks.
